Housing remains one of the most challenging issues facing individuals with disabilities and their families. The current waitlist for specialized housing in Ontario is 30 – 40 years. As a sector leader in housing development and innovation, Reena is once again stepping up to fulfill community needs with a new 19 storey residential tower; The Frankfort Family Reena Residence.
The building will be located on Elm Ridge Drive in Toronto and will provide a home for an estimated 160 people with diverse needs. It will include specialized units for complex health care and units designed for independent or shared living arrangements. Two floors are being designed specifically to serve people with mental health issues. Amenities will include programming spaces, respite suites, a gymnasium, a garden and underground parking.
The Frankfort Family Reena Residence will be modeled on the success of the Reena Community Residence (opened in 2012) and The Lou Fruitman Reena Residence (opened in 2021). These housing models provide independence, affordability and accessibility with 24/7 resources. This is life changing opportunity for many families.
The Zoning and Site plan application were unanimously approved by the City of Toronto in July 2022. Reena anticipates permit drawing submissions in late Spring 2023 and commencing demolition in the Fall of 2023.
